How To Green Your Holiday

The holidays are upon us, and with the festivities, we also consume lots of resources and generate lots of waste. There are a number of measures that all of us can take to lessen the amount of trash we produce. Here are some tips to help you plan ahead to reduce your waste and make your household green this year. : )

Christmas Tree

  1. The most eco-friendly option is to buy a living Christmas tree and plant it outside after Christmas. Make sure you dig the hole before the ground freezes.
  2. Buy a tree grown locally to save energy associated with transportation.
  3. Buy a smaller tree because there’s less to dispose of when you take it down, and shorter growing time translates into less land required.
  4. If you do buy a cut Christmas tree, take it to a tree collection center so it will be recycled for mulch for use in city’s parks and does not become part of a landfill.
