The Source of All Healing
Before I write about color therapy, I would like to remind all of us that God-Source or the Great Spirit (which is within all of us) is the source of all healing. Color is but one tool that we can use in order to complement the healing which Source offers us, through meditation and prayer. Color therapy must never replace prayer and meditation.
If you need healing, or know of someone who does, first go to God, the Source of all healing; then, be mindful of what tools Source offers to help effect the healing.
About Color Therapy
Color therapy, also known as Chromo therapy, is an alternative medicine method that draws on the positive effects of colors to balance the body’s energy centers or chakras. Imbalance in the energy centers is thought to be the key reason behind the manifestation of disease. Imbalance, which could occur in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, is rectified with color therapy.
It has been known throughout the ages that color plays a major role in setting up a particular mood or state of mind. Yet, only recently have design artists put into practice that which the ancients knew all along: color does affect one’s feelings, moods and emotions.
Color shapes how we perceive our life and can be used to heal, to inspire, and to spark the creative potential within each of us.
Using colors for healing can be traced back to the legendary Lemuria or Mu, Atlantis, Ancient Egypt, India and Greece.
The ancients of Lemuria and Atlantis built great halls of color healing, where individuals entered and were bathed in light that was filtered through various colored glass panels or windows.
In ancient Egypt, people were often dipped in vats of colored pigment, in order to help effect a cure. Other methods of color healing involved the grinding up of crystals and gemstones that would be ingested.
In India, ancient Indian scriptures, such as Atharva Veda, speak of color healing that occurs with the rays of the sun. Traditional Ayurveda also affirms the healing powers of colors.
How Colors Affect Us
Every cell in the body requires light energy. Nature herself is full of color. Therefore, it is no surprise that we are drawn to color. Color is energy. The energy vibration of color is used to enhance and balance the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual state of a person.
Harmonious, soothing colors and color combinations are used to promote health and inner harmony, key triggers for healing. The energy of color impacts our mood, health and thought process. When we heighten our awareness to the energy of color, it helps to transform our pattern of health and well-being.
Healing With Colors
The goal of any form of healing therapy is to balance the energy centers. Colors possess healing properties. When our system is balanced, there is no disease. The problem of imbalance can be addressed with the application of color, which assists in restoring the balance. Color interacts with the human energy system and brings about a balance in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.
This science of color therapy uses the various colors in the spectrum to maintain the vibrations of the body at the required frequency, which brings about harmony and good health. The way we think affects the electromagnetic field or aura of our body. So, using colors to uplift our thinking induces a sense of well-being that restores equilibrium in the body.
Color healing not only works on the physical level but also on a spiritual level. It forms a link between our physical bodies and the finer forces of vibrations. This takes us to higher levels of consciousness leading to spiritual growth.
Methods of Color Therapy
Color treatments can be applied to the body in a number of ways to treat diseases. The therapist is aware of the right color to be used to heal a patient.
Color Gazing: Gazing at a blue light is known to lower blood pressure by calming the autonomic nervous system, while red light increases blood pressure.

Solarized water is another way in which the energy of color can be taken into the body. This is an easy and inexpensive way in which to become personally involved in color healing. Simply place purified water within a colored bottle and allow it to be bathed in sunlight for a period of time. The rays of the sun, filtered through the colored bottle, energize the water along a specific line of color vibration. What you end up with is a healing tonic. The energized water rejuvenates the body after consumption.
